Do Not Pray Like An Hypocrite.
And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Verily I say unto you; They have their reward. But when you pray, enter into your closet, and when you have shut your door, pray to your Father who is in secret; and your Father who sees in secret shall reward you openly. And when you pray, do not use vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Matthew 6 v 5,7.
.Then Jesus spoke to the multitude, and to His disciples, Saying, The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat: whatsoever they bid you to do observe, but do not you after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens that are grievous to be borne and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do so as to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries and enlarge the borders of their garments, And they love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. Matthew 23 v 1-7.
But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you shut up the Kingdom of Heaven against men: for you do not go in yourselves, neither do you suffer them that are entering to go in. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for you devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore you shall receive the greater damnation. Matthew 23 v 13-14.
