Now on the first day of the feast of unleavened bread, the disciples came to Jesus, saying, Where would You have us to prepare for You to eat the Passover? And Jesus said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master says, My time is at hand; I will keep the Passover at your house with My disciples. And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them, and they made ready the Passover.
Now when the even was come, Jesus sat down with the twelve. And as they did eat, Jesus said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray Me. And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto Jesus, Lord, is it I? And Jesus answered and said, He that dips his hand with Me in the dish, the same shall betray Me. The Son of Man goes as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. Then Judas, which betrayed Him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, you have said. Read More. “The New Covenant.”
When the Son of Man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, then shall He sit upon the throne of His glory: And before Him shall be gathered all nations: and He shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats: And He shall set the sheep on His right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on His right hand, Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: For I was hungry and you gave Me meat: I was thirsty, and you gave Me drink: I was a stranger, and you took Me in: Naked, and you clothed Me: I was sick, and you visited Me: I was in prison, and you came unto Me.
Then shall the righteous answer Him, saying, Lord, when did we see you hungry? and fed You? or thirsty, and gave you drink? When did we see You as a stranger and took You in? or naked, and clothed You? Or when did we see You sick or in prison and came unto You? And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as you have done it unto one of the least of these My brethren, you have done it unto Me. For the Kingdom of Heaven is as a man travelling into a far country, who called his own servants, and delivered unto them his goods. And unto one he gave five talents, to another two, and to another one; to every man according to his several abilities; and straightway took his journey. Then he that had received the five talents went and traded with the same, and made them another five talents. And likewise, he that had received two, he also gained another two. But he that had received one went and dug in the earth, and hid his lord’s money.
After a long time, the lord of those servants came and reckoned with them. And so he that had received five talents came and brought another five talents, saying, Lord, You delivered unto me five talents: behold, I have gained beside them five talents more. His lord said unto him, Well done, good and faithful servant: you have been faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things: enter into the joy of your lord.
He also that had received two talents came and said, Lord, you delivered unto me two talents: behold, I have gained another two talents besides them. Read More. “The Parable of the Talents.”
Then shall the Kingdom of Heaven be likened unto ten virgins, who took their lamps, and went forth to meet the bridegroom? Now five of them were wise, but the other five were foolish. They that were foolish took their lamps, but took no oil with them: But the wise took oil in their vessels with their lamps.
While the bridegroom tarried, they all slumbered and slept. And at midnight there was a cry made, Behold, the bridegroom comes; go you out to meet Him. Then all those virgins arose and trimmed their lamps. Now the foolish virgins said unto the wise, Give us of your oil; for our lamps are gone out. But the wise answered, saying, Not so; lest there will not be enough for us and for you: but go you rather to them that sell, and buy for yourselves.
And while they went to buy, the bridegroom came; and they that were ready went in with Him to the marriage: and the door was shut. Afterwards came also the other virgins, saying, Lord, Lord, open to us. But He answered and said, Verily I say unto you, I do not know you. Watch therefore, for you do not know the day nor the hour wherein the Son of Man shall come. Read More. “The Parable of the Ten Virgins.”
The Universal Call To The Marriage Supper.
And Jesus answered and spoke unto them again by parables, and said, The Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a certain king, who made a marriage for his son And sent forth his servants to call them that were invited to the wedding: but they would not come. Again, he sent forth other servants, saying, Tell them who have been invited, Behold, I have prepared my dinner: my oxen and my fatlings are killed, and all things are ready: come unto the marriage.
The Rejection Of The Call.
But they made light of it, and went their ways, one to his farm, another to his merchandise: And the remnant took his servants, and entreated them spitefully, and slew them. But when the king heard thereof, he was wroth: and he sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. Then he said to his servants, The wedding is ready, but they who have been invited were not worthy. Go you therefore into the highways, and as many as you shall find, call them to come to the marriage.
The Requirement Of The Right Apparel.
So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. Read More. “The Parable Of The Marriage Feast.”
But what do you think? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, Son, go work today in my vineyard. He answered and said, I will not: but afterwards he repented, and went. And he came to the second and said likewise. And he answered and said, I will go, sir: but he never went. Which of the two did the will of their father? They said unto Him, The first. Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the Kingdom of God before you. For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and you, when you had seen it, but would not repent afterwards, that you might believe him. Matthew 21 vs 28-32.
Jesus said unto them, Did you never read in the scriptures, The stone which the builders rejected, the same has become the head of the corner: this is the Lord’s doing, and it is marvellous in our eyes? Therefore I say unto you The Kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. Read More. “The Parable of the Two Sons.”
Then came to Jesus the mother of Zebedee’s children with her sons, worshipping Jesus, and desiring a certain thing of Him. And Jesus said unto her, What do you ask of Me? She answering said unto Him, Grant that these my two sons may sit, the one on Your right hand, and the other on the left, in Your Kingdom. But Jesus answered and said, you do not know what you are asking for. Are you able to drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? They said unto Jesus, We are able. And Jesus said unto them, You shall drink indeed of My cup, and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with: but to sit on My right hand, and on My left, is not Mine to give, but it shall be given to them for whom it is prepared of My Father. Matthew 20 : 20-23
Then James and John, the sons of Zebedee, came to Him, saying, “Teacher, we want You to do for us whatever we ask.” And He said to them, “What do you want Me to do for you?” Read More. “The Request Of The Mother Of James And John.”
Then came Peter to Jesus, and said, Lord, how often shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? until seven times? Jesus said unto him, I say not unto you, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. Therefore is the Kingdom of Heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, who owed him ten thousand talents. But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made.
The servant, therefore, fell down, and worshipped him, saying, Lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all. Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt. But the same servant went out and found one of his fellow-servants, who owed him a hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, Pay me that which you owe me. And his fellow servant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything. Read More. “The Parable of the Unforgiving Servant.”
For the Kingdom of Heaven is like unto a man that is a householder, who went out early in the morning to hire labourers into his vineyard. And when he had agreed with the labourers for a penny a day, he sent them into his vineyard. And he went out about the third hour and saw others standing idle in the marketplace, And he said unto them; Go you also into the vineyard, and whatsoever is right I will give you. And they went their way. Again he went out about the sixth and ninth hour and did likewise. And about the eleventh hour, he went out and found others standing idle, and he said unto them, Why do you stand here idle all day? They said unto him Because no man has hired us. He said unto them, Go you also into the vineyard; and whatsoever is right, that shall you receive.
So when evening came, the lord of the vineyard said unto his steward, Call the labourers, and give them their hire, beginning from the last unto the first. And when they came who were hired about the eleventh hour, they received every man a penny. But when the first came, they supposed that they should have received more; and they likewise received every man a penny. Read More. “The Parable of the Vineyard Workers.”
And, behold, a young man came unto Jesus and said Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And Jesus said unto him, Why do you call Me good? there is none good but One, that is, God: but if you would enter into life, keep the commandments. He said unto Jesus, Which? Jesus said you shall not murder, you shall not commit adultery, you shall not steal, you shall not bear false witness, Honour both your father and mother: and, you shall love your neighbour as yourself.
The young man said unto Jesus All these things I have kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Jesus said unto him, If you would be perfect, go and sell that which you have, and give to the poor, and you shall have treasure in heaven: and come and follow Me. But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.
Then said Jesus unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, That a rich man shall hardly enter into the kingdom of heaven. And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the Kingdom of God. Read More. “Hard For Rich To Enter.”
